Nextel Broadband
Nextel has initiated a test of Flarion wireless broadband technology here in the Durham/Raleigh, N.C. area. I am participating in the test.
Yesterday I received my PCMCIA wireless card and had no difficulty installing the included software from the CD.
The service includes an email account which allows web reading or use of your email software such as Outlook. Also included is web page hosting. They provide a web based builder you can use to configure your web page, or you can use Frontpage mode, or ftp your own html files.
I have tested the unit in northeast Durham at my office and also at my home in Wake Forest. The coverage map indicates that Raleigh is not currently covered. I will verify that today by testing it.
The speed of web pages appears to be very similar to what I am accustomed to with my Road Runner cable service at home. It is much better than the Verizon ISDN I have at my office.
I will run some online speed tests and report the results here.
